Case Study | Da Chien General Hospital Implements NeuroSwift to Enhance Vertigo Diagnostic
Vertigo is a common yet complex symptom encountered in neurology. With diverse underlying causes, it presents significant diagnostic challenges. Da Chien General Hospital recently implemented NeuroSwift, a real-time eye-tracking solution developed by Neurobit, to assist in observing and recording nystagmus, thereby improving the accuracy and efficiency of vertigo diagnosis, particularly in acute cases.
Two Patients, One Solution: Identifying the Source with NeuroSwift
A 43-year-old male patient presented to the ER with acute vertigo. Brain CT and MRI scans showed no abnormalities, but the symptoms persisted. Another 51-year-old female patient experienced recurrent vertigo after a fall and head trauma; her imaging studies also revealed no significant findings. Both patients subsequently underwent eye movement testing using NeuroSwift, which successfully identified subtle nystagmus patterns that led to a clear diagnosis.
Although the male patient was past the acute phase and no nystagmus was visible to the naked eye, NeuroSwift detected subtle, unidirectional eye movements consistent with vestibular neuritis. He responded well to medication. The female patient exhibited positional nystagmus, leading to a diagnosis of a rare horizontal semicircular canal variant of BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), and was successfully treated with a single canalith repositioning maneuver.
Clinician's Perspective: Nystagmus Observation Aids Vertigo Diagnosis
Dr. Ting-Yi Lee, a neurologist at Da Chien General Hospital, explained that vertigo may stem from the brainstem, cerebellum, inner ear, or even psychological causes. Imaging alone often fails to reveal the underlying issue, but identifying characteristic nystagmus patterns can offer vital diagnostic clues.
She emphasized that NeuroSwift, as a wearable eye-tracking device, enables real-time amplification and recording of fine eye movements, enhancing clinical diagnostic precision. However, the tool is most effective during the acute phase or when vertigo is actively triggered, and patients must be able to follow instructions during the examination.
Neurobit | Eye-Movement–Driven Solutions for Smarter Diagnostics
NeuroSwift is one of Neurobit’s flagship products, utilizing integrated visual and vestibular signal analysis to assist in determining the origin of vertigo. Moving forward, Neurobit is committed to collaborating with healthcare providers to bridge neurology and digital health—transforming technology into real clinical value.
